fantasy spy
submitted by ssands on July 13, 2015, 9:38pm
The plot is engaging and who could resist a book about a spy in a fantasy-based world? It is, however, full of "continuity" type errors. A statue is described as being on the right of the gate, then a few sentences later the other statue flanking the gate is also to the right. A person leaves a room and then in the next paragraph leaves the same room again. I was also mildly annoyed by descriptions like "a handful of carts" which pulled me right out of the story to imagine how many carts could actually be held in a person's hand. If you can easily ignore these little things this book is a lot of fun. While this is mostly a light, pleasant, read, small children are endangered in the story such that a reader who is particularly sensitive to that might not enjoy the book.
The characters are listed and there is a glossary at the END of the book. Wish I'd found it when it could have done some good.
Good conclusion but somewhat rote submitted by mowjac on July 25, 2018, 10:44am I like this series and almost everything by this author, and this is a good conclusion, but it lacks dramatic tension--you know the end at the start, you are just reading to find out the how. There are coming of age moments, first sexual encounter and lots of political intrigue, plus a nice epilogue.
