Touching mini-memoir submitted by FordAlpha on August 30, 2019, 10:51pm Inspired by the author's own childhood experiences, this is a touching story of a child whose closest relationship is with the family's maid. The author and illustrator are a husband-and-wife team who've collaborated on several picture books. David Small's illustrations are always expressive and filled with motion; the text, however, is quiet and understated. Adults will be moved by the story, but kids are unlikely to want repeated readings. Mine didn't sit through even one.
