Not good English, but the dog is cute submitted by bnemerovski on July 30, 2017, 7:15am This book is written very strangely, with lots of problems. Fireman Small hacks a hole in the roof of the house, shoots water everywhere and fills the house with soot and ash ... THEN HE INSTRUCTS THE FAMILY TO MOVE RIGHT BACK IN! The author uses phrases like "The family carry sofa outside." Huh?

But my 3.5-year-old son loves Tinker the fire dog. So there's that.

OK submitted by unknown on August 1, 2017, 11:22am The book is cute and fun to read, but totally unrealistic. After the fire is out the family carries there belongings back in - I didn't like that. With that said, it has a good amount of words per page and the images aren't to crazy.

Accurate Classic submitted by KPNF on August 13, 2018, 7:31am This book that was written in 1946 withstands the test of time on most points. Ms. Lenski includes a sort of glossary diagram of the parts of a 1940’s fire truck, which is really pretty similar to the modern fire pumper truck. What we like most is her accurate description of how a fire hydrant is used: a hose goes from the pumper truck to the hydrant and the water goes from another hose out of the pumper to the fire. Many kids’ books featuring fire trucks erroneously depict the fire hydrant being used as a direct source of water!! As for the other reviewers who take issue with the part of the story where Fireman Small tells the family to move back in as soon as the fire is out - this is most likely what would happen if you had a small kitchen fire or other fire that didn’t fully engulf your house. It would be up to the homeowner/ tenant to find other accommodations. (Unless they have money for a hotel or family to host them.)
