This is by the same author as _The Story of a Marriage_, which I only gave two stars to.
The book's premise is that Max is born old, and spends the next 70 years getting younger. As a premise, it's fascinating. As a story, it's interesting. But as an emotional journey? It's a grumpy, disgruntled, cynical old man in a 12-year-old's body telling a long and filled-with-disappointments story.
I had to set the book down for a few weeks because I was just so tired of the cynicism. Though I have to say that when I picked it back up, I really enjoyed the author's skill in bringing the ending of the book together.
