A decent set
submitted by brady.emmett on July 30, 2011, 8:56am
Season 4 of Buffy has been one of my least favorites to date. It really seems to lack a common thematic progression over the course of the season... Everything seems cobbled together, almost randomly. There are some stand-out episodes here and there, but overall, a less than pleasing season. I suppose the first year of college is a confusing time, but it makes a poor theme. At the end of the day, though, it is still Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and that is a great thing!
This set of episodes are decent. The Jonathan episode, Superstar, was kind of surprising... Oz's return was ok, it gives us some closure, but other than that, nothing of real note.
They're Not All Superstars

As a whole, season 4 is at the bottom of my Buffy The Vampire Slayer Rankings. I can't stand a new character who was introduced (actually, more than one), and while there are good or interesting ideas involved, the whole just doesn't gel. But it does have a few stellar episodes.
"Superstar" is both hilarious and rather heartbreaking (an amazing Buffy the Vampire trademark). It brings a surprise focus on Jonathan, a very peripheral character.
"Who Are You" is part 2 of the body-swapping hijinks begun in "This Year's Girl".
