Worthy Sequel

What I like about the Alex Rider series is that it's not trying to be something it's not. Horowitz quickly sets up the game, sends Alex in to the thick of the action, and rocks the finale + one last scare. This is fast paced spy action a la James Bond, with a well-crafted protagonist in Alex Rider, engaging social topics, and a no-nonsense approach to writing. There are always a few 'yeah right' scenes along the way, but that's all part of the fun. And Alex gets some really cool gadgets to fight the bad dudes.
To read this sequel, the reader basically needs to know that Alex Rider is working for the British Secret Service, aka MI-6. The rest is efficiently explained in the first few pages. After reading Stormbreaker, I wasn't sure I wanted to continue in the series, but this is a worthy sequel that sheds some of the outdated feel of the first, technology driven book in the series. Good for anyone looking for a fast, fun summer read, and would be great on BOCD during long road trips.

I really like this book! submitted by jkl on August 11, 2011, 4:21pm This is probably my favorite of the Alex Rider books. The concept of the school, where bad children of wealthy families are cloned and then sent out as the real child is very interesting. There's a good bit of action in this book and the amount of suspense is unbelievable. I just couldn't put this book down. And like any other Alex Rider novel, Smithers comes through with quite a few cool gadgets.
