Incredible Emotional Range submitted by Meginator on June 17, 2023, 11:47pm This compilation of Sam Cooke’s music is notable both for Cooke’s smooth vocals and for the way that it reveals the early history of R&B and soul as the tracks progress. Cooke’s vocals have a seemingly effortless delivery and a unique sound that help draw out the emotions in the lyrics, assisted by various backing groups who provide just the right amount of support to highlight his talents. The tracks have a nice variety to them in their tempo, style, and tone, showcasing Cooke’s range and his ability to find the heart of a particular song. Anyone who enjoys early soul music, or who is interested in the history of the genre and/or the development of R&B in this era, should enjoy this collection.
