What is Life submitted by breaking_glass on October 6, 2010, 11:32am I knew nothing about this film when I sat down to watch it a few years ago, so I had a big surprise. It's a really great film, but ultra-violent, so definitely be forewarned. The story is told in reverse chronological order. So at the beginning of the film, we see the outcome of the situation, and how the characters got there is unfolded as the film continues. I believe some of the best films are films that have the power to make the viewer uncomfortable. Be prepared to feel very uncomfortable, and confront your own feelings about morality.

I'm not sure why the director's name isn't mentioned here in the record, but his name is Gaspar Noé. He also wrote the screenplay. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of his films.

Complete and total GARBAGE of a joke of a movie. UNWATCHABLE. submitted by Tassos on January 18, 2019, 10:33am It took me less than 5 minutes to see this RIDICULOUS POS. FFWDed every worthless scene. Gimmicky and devoid of any value.

Trigger Warning. submitted by tisaallen on June 17, 2022, 12:12am Irreversible is a story told backwards, the events of a single night shown from the end of the evening to the beginning. The idea is interesting, the movie is not.

The plot appears to have been built entirely around the very brutal and very graphic 8 minute long rape scene. A very loud, realistic, seemingly endless 8 minute rape scene. That’s the whole point of the move, to shock and disgust the viewers. The writing is weak, the dialogue is boring, the angles are jarring and the nighttime setting makes the film dark and grainy.

It’s a terrible movie, has no redeeming qualities at all, and I’ve yet to come across a single person who has said they liked it.

Some interesting ideas buried in brutality submitted by brooksza on August 15, 2022, 11:04am The second half of this movie was more interesting than I was expecting after the way the movie started. I think the graphic brutality was gratuitous and unnecessary. I had to look away a number of times. The movie could have accomplished the point without it.

The reverse-foreshadowing was unique, especially in the final scene. It's tragic to see the characters after knowing the horrific stuff that will happen to them later on. I appreciated this more than I expected but I would never watch it again.
