Great movie! submitted by SusanS on August 22, 2023, 8:56pm This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I wish more people knew about it. Based on a true story, it takes place in Russia in the late 1800s. Dersu is a hunter who is understands how to read the subtle signs in the forest that tell him what wildlife are present, who has been there ahead of him, and how to adapt to whatever happens. He befriends the captain of an army unit that is surveying the wilderness in the far eastern part of Russia and guides the team through their travels. The friendship between Dersu and the captain deepens through many adventures, but ultimately Dersu can't adapt to the encroaching civilization. It's a great story with beautiful scenery. Watch it!
