COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A strange story but built around grief in all its forms submitted by ccrose on August 30, 2019, 11:16pm This movie got promotion and heated criticism when it was released. It is, I’d say, on the far side of R rated. Brando physically looked like a man in agony, I don’t know what he did to make his body convey that but it was impressive. An odd and sad ending.

Didn't age well submitted by brooksza on July 25, 2022, 3:51pm I had this on my watchlist for a while and this was a struggle to get through. The cinematography was nice at time, especially shots split down the middle with action on both sides and some interesting depth of field. But the story is a slog, it's not at all romantic and it's impossible to understand most of what Brando says. I can see it as a tortured performance.

The idea and psychology behind this is interesting but it mostly turned into Paul emotionally and sexually abusing Jeanne. Maybe the end is about dealing with trauma but I don't think the destination justified the journey.

Brilliant Arguably Brando’s Best submitted by KidBlue on August 8, 2022, 8:13pm This is a brilliant film, very artful and obviously not for all tastes given the explicit sexual content. It’s theme has to do with the grief of an emotionally damaged man, of which there are many in today’s world. Brando’s performance is blazing.
