COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Excellent submitted by Daniel Saltzman on January 4, 2010, 12:24pm A fantastical parody of the California Gold Rush and how ultimately, even after stripping the Earth bare, the only thing greed leads us to is tragedy and scorched Earth. However, being a children's film, this is cloaked under a charming story of young children's dreams and has a very happy ending.

A Favorite! submitted by xoxobrenda on June 28, 2011, 10:42am Castle In The Sky is definitely one of my top favorite Hayao Miyazaki films!
It's full of adventure, magic, mystery, and guts. The main characters Pazu and Sheeta and both the hero and heroine in this wonderful story.
It teaches us about human greed and power, and also dreams and friendships.
Not to mention, the soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous, especially the main theme. I suggest playing it on the piano!
Also, the Grandma pirate is pretty awesome.

Great submitted by eagles on July 24, 2011, 4:26pm Loved it!!!!!!!

Castle in the Sky submitted by marisal on August 15, 2011, 10:21am The animation was great but I got a little confused in parts.

Good submitted by fka83111 on August 25, 2011, 7:46pm Just ok.

Not "Totoro" submitted by DTrier on December 18, 2011, 4:44pm Enjoyable, but probably better for older kids.

Favorite submitted by tasha kazanjian on April 19, 2012, 8:44pm This is my all time favorite Studio Ghibli film. Exciting, sweet, and funny. It's an eco friendly kind of movie, but not in your face. The two main characters are smart and awesome but not perfect. I think it's really nice that Sheeta (the girl) doesn't rely completely on Pazu (the boy). She's able to fight evil guys, but she still needs him. It's a nice balance. Highly recommend it.

Awesome submitted by jszchen on June 17, 2012, 9:53pm I love all of Miyazaki's movies the characters draw you in. Ponyo was the first movie of his we saw. My neighbor Totoro is also a favorite

Castle In The Sky submitted by SBNB on August 1, 2015, 8:31pm Not bad. It’s not as good as Howl’s Moving Castle, but still not bad.

Okay submitted by ishhewitt on July 10, 2016, 7:05pm I prefer Miyazaki's other films more than this one, but it's a cute story.

Good voice actors submitted by Xris on July 30, 2016, 10:28pm I especially liked Cloris Leachman's portrayal of the mom.

A classic submitted by MadMonkeyZ on June 25, 2018, 7:30pm whenever I think about it makes me sad. Great story. Just sad……

ok submitted by kbahleda on July 3, 2018, 6:32pm not my favorite of the Miyazaki films, the characters were a little to hard to believe in.

4 stars submitted by menmen on July 6, 2018, 12:24pm It's a very interesting story. I like the end of the movie. However, the scenes in the movie aren't connected so well. It's a good movie tho.

A Gorgeous Fantasy submitted by dntanzer on August 31, 2018, 9:48am I know this is not a fan-favorite, but I absolute love this Ghibli film. It's a little slower paced, but the art is gorgeous and the world it creates is interesting and beautiful.

Great submitted by anacoluthon on July 15, 2019, 2:42am Another wonderful film from Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki. I always love the world building in Ghibli films, and Castle in the Sky is particularly beautiful.

My favorite Studio Ghibli movie submitted by ValerieL on August 5, 2019, 3:17pm I absolutely love Castle in the Sky. The world building is just gorgeous, the cinematography is well done, and half the time I forget it's animated because it seems so real! It's my favorite Studio Ghibli movie.
