Great submitted by leenajong on July 20, 2015, 8:51am Great music.

Kantor & Ebb gem! submitted by purchasingqueen on August 27, 2016, 7:19am K&E, one of the best writing teams on Broadway. You want to perform every song on the cd, they'really that good!

Not just Law & Order submitted by ckfinzel on July 7, 2019, 2:42pm Jerry Orbach is a gem. I highly recommend this.

Dark Humor and Earnest Performances submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:07pm Being very familiar with the film adaptation, I couldn’t help but compare the two recordings as I listened to this cd. I appreciate the original cast’s somewhat simpler take on the songs; to my mind, the performances here are a bit more earnest, and they sell the story really well. John Kander and Fred Ebb do well to recreate the vibrancy of the Jazz Age throughout the show, and the whole album is a tribute to that era, or at least the version of it that lingers in the popular imagination. Despite the somewhat dire subject matter, the songs are riddled with (dark) humor, and the whole story has a tragicomic air about it. It might be a little difficult to pick up all of the storylines from the soundtrack alone, but the primary arcs are present and accounted for and the music is fun enough that it may not matter too much if you can’t pick up every subtlety. This is a classic show for a reason, and this album is definitely worth checking out whether or not you’re familiar with the film.
