I remember this film seeming very violent to me at the time. submitted by lisa on July 29, 2019, 4:12pm It's probably not so violent-looking now. I recall liking Bob Hoskins, before liking him even more in Mermaids and Roger Rabbit. Don't remember Helen Mirren, though! Didn't come to recognize her until she was older.

The loss of Bob Hoskins was a HUGE Blow to the Movie Business.

Just saw it again. The idiot who watched this DVD before me set it up in AWFUL "widescreen" mode, distorting everything to the point of utterly unwatchable. I was able to correct me from my remote to the correct 4:3 Aspect ratio, and the picture became excellent at once.

I reiterate, this is a GREAT movie, Bob Hotchkins is a NATURAL (sorely missed, he passed away too early), and any violence is NOT gratuitous, the IRA bombings were a daily fact of life back then, even in London, before and after this movie was made. NOTHING like Crappy Hollywood "action" flicks where there is a ton of unconvincing, cartoon-like, gratuitous violence
