Ending Manages to Ruin Whole Book submitted by jniehof on July 25, 2009, 1:56am Be forewarned going into this book. It is well-written, obviously the author researched the time period, but the ending almost negates the joy of the journey. There is a huge amount of set-up in the beginning, and the middle third is wonderous character development and story. The protagonist is a murdering masochistic rapist, but this aspect of his personality is overcome in the middle. Then the ending is just a plot and character explosion. Decent human beings would never behave this way, and when you close the book you're just left with the feeling that everything you went through was for nothing.
