On trial: Sarah, a new maid, is put "on trial" after being caught stealing. The mistress and the maids: Scandal ensues when an artist hired to paint a portrait of Lady Marjorie also reveals a portrait of two half-naked maids from the Bellamy household. Board wages: While the family and senior servants are away on summer vacation, James Bellamy returns unexpectedly to discover the remaining staff dressed like the Bellamys and having a party. The path of duty: Elizabeth returns from Dresden with a newfound contempt for London society.

An Old Friend
The recent short series made me curious about the originals, of which I had seen a few scattered episodes in re-runs so I started at the beginning. I hadn't remembered how well-written and well-acted and entertaining this series was.
