All-Time Great Jazz Piano submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 8:45am Fats Waller’s reputation as one of the best jazz pianists of all time is justified immediately from the first track of this compilation, and his amazing, high-energy performances have the capability to astound and enchant even today. The notes seem to roll naturally off of his fingers, and the jovial atmosphere is consistent from the bouncing music itself to the humorous lyrics and occasional spoken asides. As for the music itself, one can hear the transition from ragtime to smoother jazz progressions as the album unfolds; some tracks slow down the syncopation to become startlingly modern, ahead of their time and as enthralling as ever. This collection is a fascinating portrait of jazz in its infancy, played by one of its greatest talents.
