Best in the Series
submitted by Liz Kindschy on June 18, 2012, 9:45pm
As an avid fan of Tamora Pierce's books, it is hard to pick a "favorite" book. That being said, this is my favorite Tamora Pierce book.
Set in her world of Tortall, Pierce writes another series about a strong female warrior. Keladry of Mindelan finds herself facing challenges as she struggles to become the second female knight in centuries. Kel, however, will become a knight with the world knowing her as female, unlike her predecessor, Alanna, who spent her time disguised as a boy. Squire is the third book in the Protector of the Small series about Keladry of Mindelan. Characters from previous books appear, and Kel commences her final four years before she faces the Chamber of the Ordeal.
This is one of Tamora Pierce's best books, and probably her funniest. Raoul of Goldenlake reappears as a main character, and Alanna begins to appear in Kel's life.
In all honesty, there is no way my words can do this book justice. I highly recommend reading this series, but I would strongly suggest beginning at the very beginning, with Alanna: The First Adventure. If you can't wait, jump to First Test, but I think everything will make more sense if you begin at the beginning.
A Bit Slow submitted by MollyWiding on July 31, 2020, 3:57pm This wasn't my favorite book of the series. Although Kel is a great character, the plot in this book dragged a little and I wasn't a huge fan of the romance.
Best in the series submitted by zmclaugh on July 13, 2021, 1:53pm Definitely my favorite in the series. This is really a slice-of-life sort of book, but with a lot going on. I really like how Kel grows in this book.
