Read by Jim Dale.
For twelve years, the dread fortress of Azkaban held an infamous prisoner named Sirius Black. Convicted of killing thirteen people with a single curse, he was said to be the heir apparent to the Dark Lord, Voldemort. Now he has escaped, leaving only two clues as to where he might be headed: Harry Potter's defeat of You-Know-Who was Black's downfall as well; and the Azkaban guards heard Black muttering in his sleep, "He's at Hogwarts." Harry isn't safe, not even within the walls of his magical school, because there may well be a traitor in their midst.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

ok submitted by sauerr on July 6, 2011, 3:04pm I have read this book so many tomes it is not even funny. But i would recommend it for first timers

Jim Dale Rocks! submitted by camelsamba on July 12, 2011, 9:31am (This review applies to all HP BOCDs, but I'll put it here because there aren't as many reviews for book 3.)

If you've been wondering what all the hype is about Harry Potter, but don't want to be seen holding the book, you owe it to yourself to get one of the book on CD versions. Jim Dale (the reader) really makes the books come alive. He has so many different voices, it's really easy to keep the main characters apart. His style is engaging and expressive. If you're going for a long car ride - or if you have a daily commute - check out Harry Potter on CD.

I have friends who say they would listen to Jim Dale read the phone book. I'm not sure I'd go that far, but he is pretty darn fabulous! On the other hand, it makes me feel a bit inadequate to read the book aloud to my kids - I feel like I need to have more voices. I try to channel Jim Dale, but it just doesn't work :^) [although i can often hear his voice in my head when reading it to myself!]

Aside: some of the library CDs get fairly scratched up through repeated use. Our experience is that you can 'rip' them to a computer and listen that way (from computer or an MP3 player) - the computers in our house are much less forgiving of scratched CDs than are the CD players!

really good submitted by ColeenT on July 15, 2011, 8:51am really good

great submitted by readingking on July 24, 2011, 7:30pm great book

Great submitted by Chris82 on July 31, 2011, 8:36pm This is a great audio version of a great book. You really lose yourself listening to it.

my favorate books of all time submitted by ferdoble on August 2, 2011, 5:53pm Like approximately 100 million other people, this is my favorite book series of all times. My favorite will forever be the first book. I read the first 4 or 5 chapters of that book all the time, I just love the way he finds out.

If you haven’t read them because of the genre that they have been put into, please worry about that no longer, these books transcend genre, they are just that good.

One tip that you may not get elsewhere is that I recommend listening to the UK audio recording, Jim Dale is good, but Stephen Fry is better

Captivating submitted by andrea on August 13, 2011, 10:59pm We are currently listening to The Prisoner of Azkaban as a family on car trips. We reached the climax today and my eight-year-old, who is hearing this story for the first time, is completely captivated. I have heard Jim Dale read this book several times, and I could listen to it over and over without ever getting bored. Amazing book read by an incredibly talented reader.

great movie submitted by jszchen on August 18, 2011, 9:17pm I love all the harry potter films

Prisoner of Azkaban submitted by SBNB on June 21, 2014, 12:38pm This is a Book on CD. The story is one of my favorites of Harry Potter.

For everyone! submitted by anothercrafter on July 1, 2014, 11:51pm My kids - aged 13, 9, and 5 - are all completely captivated by this book and by Jim Dale's narration. This got us through several multi-hour car rides recently. Highly recommend the whole series in audio!

Prisoner of Azkaban audiobook submitted by Fevvers - STAR473 on August 8, 2014, 2:36am Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third book in the Harry Potter series (and my personal favorite). Jim Dale does a great job as the narrator for all of the Harry Potter audiobooks. He changes up his voice for different characters but usually not in a too extreme and distracting way. Great for traveling or bedtime stories - though unless you've read or listened to them before, they can be too exciting or emotional to be very relaxing.

Time turner confusion submitted by mtrax on August 12, 2014, 10:49pm I thought the time turner storyline was more confusing with the audiobooks than reading it.

Best of jk Rowling submitted by Mscarmenshahin on October 30, 2014, 6:57am The only harry potter book that is better than harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban is harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban being voiced by the British musician, jim dale.
This is one of the happier less stressful books that takes place just before the junk hits the fan in the series.
It was difficult to pick, but this book is my fave.
My only criticism is: who is letting their kids touch CDs and DVDs right after eating glazed donuts and buttered popcorn??? Every disk I find has petrified little handprints that you almost want to sand off.Throw them up on a shelf where babies can't open the case and poke at them. That's what I do. I think some of these audiobooks might need replacing.

One of the best HP Books submitted by drewy234432 on June 14, 2015, 7:55am The Harry Potter series is a great one and this book on tape makes the entire reading experience even better. The voice and the quite music adds tension and creates suspense , making this book even better. Even if you have already read this book, listen to the book on tape and it will change your entire experience with this book.

Jim Dale is class. submitted by crankycrack on June 26, 2016, 1:51pm I would listen to these just for Mr. Dale. The fact that I dig the story is a huge bonus.

Fantastic submitted by Alex Hannah on July 22, 2016, 5:36am Great.

Great book read well submitted by steveiew on June 27, 2018, 11:12am Listening to HP is one of my favorite things! The narrator does an exceptional job, making the story even better. This book is one of the most different in the series but still wonderful.

A little bit darker, less suitable for younger children submitted by Cherrytreelane on July 29, 2018, 10:26pm Continues the great storytelling both in storyline and in audiobook production, great for roadtrips!

Great submitted by anacoluthon on August 19, 2018, 4:51pm Quite a few twists and surprises in this one, and the fantastic narrator makes it even better.

Great addition to the series! submitted by Xris on August 26, 2018, 12:36am The dementors are so creepy! And Azkaban is a terrible place. But I love that we learn more about someone new from Harry's past.

Nice addition to the series! submitted by wookeny on July 2, 2019, 9:27pm This book was very cool and nice. In this book there is a bird that carries Harry and his friends. This book would be hard to understand for little kids, but for older kids, they will LOVE it!!!

A weird ending submitted by Jonathan Primus on July 3, 2019, 7:48am I think that this is kind of freaky because of some of the creatures, people, but most of all Sirius Black. I think that kids 8 and up should read this, because it has some really freaky parts. It is still amazing for people who understand it, are not super scared and understand Quidditch. Azkaban is terrible, though. That place is swarming with tons of dementors.

Treat yourself! submitted by mickplu on June 11, 2021, 4:16pm Even if you've already read this book, it's a treat to have it read to you on CD! Very entertaining and the narrators do a fine job.

GOod Cd submitted by angie. on July 23, 2021, 1:13pm Good Book! I liked it :) I think they are good for kids and teens! I liked hearing it instead of reading it!

So good! submitted by TLW1998 on June 20, 2022, 10:31pm Excellent writing, plot twists, great story! I read this with my 7-year old, and we both loved it. It was not too scary for her.

Good! submitted by tarzan5411 on July 6, 2023, 12:47pm Great! The dementors & the mystery about sirius black are really exciting.

Jim has ruined… submitted by schweiml on July 15, 2023, 2:20pm …me for all other audiobooks. This man is an absolute wizard (get it?). But in all seriousness, he is brilliant and I can’t imagine these books read by anyone else. I would listen to literally any audiobook be narrates, no question.
