In this Cajun version of "Little Red Riding Hood," the big bad gator is no match for a sharp young duck and her quick-thinking cat.

Petite Rouge is certainly the Cajun version of red riding hood the title implies. Petite Rouge is the little red riding hood of this tale, shes a small goose instead of a small gal. She ventures through the bayou to her grand-mere's house and meets Ol' Claude, a hungry gator that lives in the swamp. The Gator gets there first and poses as grand-mere and Petite Rogue is saved by her cat Tejean, who scares the gator off with a bit of hot sauce.
I really enjoyed this boo! It rhymes and is written with a Cajun accent. There is a wonderful representation of culture and dialect. There is even a small glossary in the front of the book to explain some of the words that might be confusing. It was a lot of fun to read and the illustrations were wonderful.
