Good message submitted by cbrewster on August 25, 2013, 8:11pm Two girls grow up divided by a fence. Each girl is instructed by her family not to go to the other side. They end up side stepping the rule by sitting on the bench together and in this manner they become close friends. Soon other friends begin to sit on the fence. At the end of the stories, the girls agree that someday the fence will fall down.
A Lovely Book

Both words and pictures are beautiful, combining to tell a powerful story of friendship in spite of obstacles.
Notice how the people's clothing seems to locate the book in time, and how the story itself feels more universal.
And notice how illustrator E.B. Lewis placed both the fence and the gutter relative to the two main characters. (Thank you Lulu Delacre for that observation.)
The Other Side submitted by SBNB on August 24, 2017, 11:21am This is a great book. I highly recommend it.
