My favorite travel story submitted by pmysore on August 15, 2011, 7:30am I have read a lot of books by Bill Bryson and I have to admit that this my favorite one so far! I read the book while i was in australia and i was able to relate to a lot of places and events mentioned in the book. Highly recommend taking this along with your travel guide.

Great travelogue! submitted by 21621031390949 on May 1, 2012, 8:08pm I've read several of Bill Bryson's books and this is my favorite so far. He loves Australia and his enthusiasm for the country is infectious. So infectious, in fact, that I finished the book and promptly booked tickets for my family's next vacation to be there. We've just returned and I have to say that this book prepared me well. Several times during our 3 weeks Down Under, we ran into situations or places that were exactly as he had described them. We made sure to visit several of the places he delighted in and were never disappointed. The only significant difference was that he traveled in January, in the height of Australia's summer, and so he was much, much hotter than we were. I recommend traveling in April, when things are beginning to cool off, and the rainy season is done in the tropics. Wonderful country!

I'd love to visit submitted by tbbrown76 on July 2, 2014, 8:17pm For a year or two. Excellent read. I was caught up in the country and in his travels. But, sounds a little dangerous.

Another Hit from Bryson submitted by sushai on July 4, 2016, 6:06pm This is trademark Bryson at his best, traveling around Australia and making witty comments. The book really gets good when he gets a traveling companion, similar to when his buddy joins him on the Appalachian Trail in A Walk in the Woods. I am more interested in traveling to Australia than ever, but am a little worried about the rip tides and animals that are apparently just waiting to kill me when I show up.
