number 2 submitted by jnfaro on June 24, 2011, 8:56am This is actually the first book in the series that I read and I thought it was great so I read all the other books in the series.

love submitted by alicegz on June 24, 2011, 2:05pm You know, I never read Harry Potter in elementary school because I had always been afraid of its length. I think I lost a bit of my childhood in doing that :p LOVE HP; LOVE ROWLING

Harry submitted by honordenver on June 30, 2011, 12:32am Great book I love all of it.

stunning book submitted by Zhengyang1022 on July 2, 2011, 8:13am Harry Potter, at his second year at Hogwarts. Harry Potter and his friends grow and you can see the growth. Almost everything expands and in the end, in the mind-blowing climax, Harry Potter meets the dreaded Basilisk and nearly dies but Fawks saves him. Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets is a must read!!!!

Harry Potter 2 submitted by Ying Zh on July 2, 2011, 8:32pm I think this book is also fairly good and I thought it was cool how Tom Riddle's name is Lord Voldemort's actual name. I thought the monster turn out a bit lame how it just turned out to be the king of snakes. I do recommend this book to people who liked the first book because the second book is equally as good.

my favorate books of all time submitted by ferdoble on August 2, 2011, 5:52pm Like approximately 100 million other people, this is my favorite book series of all times. My favorite will forever be the first book. I read the first 4 or 5 chapters of that book all the time, I just love the way he finds out.

If you haven’t read them because of the genre that they have been put into, please worry about that no longer, these books transcend genre, they are just that good.

One tip that you may not get elsewhere is that I recommend listening to the UK audio recording, Jim Dale is good, but Stephen Fry is better

This series is great! submitted by jkl on August 10, 2011, 9:08pm ^^^All that needs to be said^^^

Great submitted by Smiles on June 16, 2012, 10:20am Harry Potter discovers that a dangerous beast was released into his school. One that was released before and now is paralyzing many students. His only problem is that he doesn't know who opened it up or even where the chamber of secrets is.

Very good submitted by swarnalir on June 19, 2013, 8:31pm I really enjoyed it.

Actually kinda bleh submitted by Pumpkinscones on June 27, 2013, 10:30pm This is not a great book. It's part of a great series but I feel this one just requires to be pushed on through in order to get to the more exciting and relevant stuff down the road. It does introduce Ginny and some information on Voldemort's grand plan as well as tools to complete the tasks but its just not as fun as the others.

Great sequal submitted by xiwang on June 28, 2013, 4:50pm Harry Potter is such an original idea that it's astounding when you read it. This is one of the best series ever and this book is pretty good also.

great !!!!!!!! submitted by chioma on July 7, 2014, 6:28pm It's a good book as always. I just can't believe the diary and who opened the chamber.

Review from a "would I let my kid read it" perspective submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 11, 2014, 1:59pm Reviewing specifically from a "when should we read it to our kids" perspective: Yep, this one is fine for our nervous 7 year old, too. We warned him that there's a scary spider and a scary snake at the end, and that we won't read those parts right before bed (they'll have to be daytime reading). But with those caveats in mind, he'll be fine. He knows so much about the overall storyline of the series that whenever he gets nervous, we can just summarize how it'll work out. Then he relaxes and we can enjoy the ride to get there together

awesome book!! submitted by jingyan_zhang on August 3, 2014, 5:36pm harry potter is warned not to go to hogwarts, but he does.

Spider is too scary submitted by tbbrown76 on August 19, 2014, 8:03am for my kid. But, a good read nonetheless.

Really Good! submitted by srahman on July 8, 2015, 7:07pm This book was rlly mysterious.

Fabulous submitted by lauradu_palmer on July 13, 2016, 7:47pm Couldn't put down this book

rewarding submitted by Judeyblu on July 26, 2016, 10:02pm this second book in the series helps convince us that sequels are more than a filler book.

The thinest submitted by shermdock on August 25, 2016, 9:14pm It's hard to believe that this book began this dark and wonderful series. They just keep getting better. Reading the series in an exercise in watching someone learn to write.

Best book submitted by rite2leks on June 17, 2017, 11:17am Best book ever

AMAZING! submitted by Jessica Primus on June 19, 2017, 4:37pm This book is amazing and i'm so glad I got into it. This book is funny, magical, and just plain old AWESOME! I know that's that a not a brilliant description but that's that truth. I think this is a good book for grades 1 and up. HAVE FUN!

Who doesn't love Harry potter submitted by mkwhybark on July 17, 2017, 5:30pm A good read that gets kids into reading and lives up to expectations.

Harry's Adventures Continue submitted by Meginator on July 19, 2017, 11:18am Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a worthy followup to its predecessor and continues to showcase J. K. Rowling's unmatched talent for worldbuilding and character development. Despite the fact that she continually adds new wrinkles and characters, Rowling's world seems thoroughly pre-planned, with everything in its place regardless of when the reader hears about it. This is, I think, a large part of why Voldemort's origin story (first explored here) works, even though it is revealed slowly throughout the course of the series. Rowling knows what the reader needs to know and acts appropriately, sharing information in the context of another lively adventure for Harry and his friends at Hogwarts. This book is just as good as the first, and probably better on a nuts and bolts level, and its magic enchants beyond the final page.

Fantastic submitted by hahahame on July 24, 2017, 6:28pm Harry Potter is a must read series and this book does not disappoint

Love it submitted by ReadingIsAmazing123 on July 27, 2017, 4:09pm Love this book so much! I love the end, and I think it's a very important one.

Simply Brilliant submitted by zixyxuan on July 31, 2017, 1:58pm I first read this book in elementary school and then probably reread it again sometime in middle school. I have always remembered disliking this book because I, like Ron, am terrified of spiders. Rereading this book as an adult and after completing this series made me see all the details that J. K. Rowling used to build up to the seventh book. Honestly, this lady is a queen.

And can I just say that Rowling's sense of humor is so on point. I don't like Malfoy until the later books, but his line to Goyle--"Honestly, if you were any slower, you’d be going backward."--had me choking on my water.
Another favorite: “That’d be a cheerful visit,” said Ron, “ ‘Hello, Hagrid. Tell us, have you been setting anything mad and hairy loose in the castle lately?”
The comedic relief in the midst of the tension and stress of finding the Heir of Slytherin was just so perfect. Ugh...

It's not my favorite Harry Potter book, but I have such a high appreciation for this novel. Would definitely recommend.

Overall rating: 4.5 Stars

The best series! submitted by accountsfpd on August 12, 2017, 10:10am Harry Potter is the best series EVER!! SO GOOD!

Amazing! submitted by phoebed on June 21, 2018, 11:04am This book is amazing!

3 out of 5 stars submitted by priscilladu on June 21, 2018, 4:08pm I would rate this book a 3 out of 5 stars. I think its a great book, but compared to the other books in the series, it lacked action and adventure. The story didn't have much going on and the plot was all based around one thing. Overall its still a wonderful series and I love Harry Potter.

scary story! submitted by Jonathan Primus on June 24, 2018, 9:43am Harry Potter book 2 is an amazing book. It is much scarier than book one. It has better parts and when the basilisk comes it gets scary. After though, Harry is OK. He is covered in slime and blood. This book is about a mysterious person who is turning all mudbloods/people who are wizards or witches but their parents are not, wizards or whiches/ into stone. There is one person who is nearly dead. Will that person be okay? Or will that person die? Read to find out who the person is, and if he or she is okay.

Okay submitted by cindygeer on June 27, 2018, 2:08pm Kids will love it. Still a quick read for adults. Loved the HP series.

Great Sequel! submitted by ajstemp on June 27, 2018, 4:46pm The second installment in the Harry Potter series is just as magical and delightful as the first. The world gets deeper and richer with the introduction of new characters and (mostly) new villains, and Harry continues to grow as he explores the world around him.

The best. submitted by Aveliney on July 9, 2018, 4:07pm I love this series more than anything, and the community that surrounds it. It's an amazing thing.

AMAZING submitted by Miriam Wasserman on July 14, 2018, 12:01pm Harry Potter is one of my favorite series. Love it so much. Would recommend it.

Still Good! submitted by dd8 on August 16, 2018, 3:13pm wonderful and magical

Lovely Sequel! submitted by Smileyfrowns on August 18, 2018, 12:38am As the Hogwarts students go into their second year, the seriousness of the task they must face matures with them. It's always such an enjoyable read to read Harry Potter, and the second book of the series is no exception.

Very Good submitted by anacoluthon on August 19, 2018, 4:48pm A fantastic sequel! Gilderoy Lockhart was so very annoying (as he was meant to be).

Sequel submitted by Bigal2212 on August 22, 2018, 1:23pm Just as magical as the first!

Enemies of the Heir Beware submitted by elizabeth mayhew on August 23, 2018, 12:59am Phoenixes, unidentified creatures in the walls! This book adds a lot of new creatures to consider, as well as revealing more about our heroes enemies

Great addition to the series! submitted by Xris on August 26, 2018, 12:39am My favorite character we get to meet is Moaning Myrtle! Our heroic trio have to figure out another puzzle to save someone. Also love the concept of the diary and what Mr. Weasley says about it: "Don't trust anything that you can't tell where its brain is". (Or something like that)

Ok book submitted by Claireywang on August 29, 2018, 7:36pm I’ve always felt that the first book in a series is the best. While there are some exceptions, this was mainly no different. While I was still interested, and the descriptions still vivid, I think the first book was better.

so good submitted by SadieRose on June 14, 2019, 11:55am I love all these books

An ok book submitted by c_zhang on June 14, 2019, 11:26pm Pretty good book, but a bit bland compared to the others in the series.

The Series Heats Up submitted by AccountJD on June 15, 2019, 5:20pm This is when the series really matures and comes into its own. Dark, dangerous, and wild!

Harry potter and the Sorcerer's Stone submitted by MasterZo on June 16, 2019, 1:08pm this book is awesome, love the harry potters

the story arc is so complex submitted by camelsamba on June 22, 2019, 10:19pm This series really is great literature, masterful story telling, a thrilling adventure.

Our family was listening to Sorcerer's Stone in the car about the same time I was finishing up a re-reading of book 6 (Half-Blood Prince). I was able to see how masterfully Rowling ties so many details together over the whole arc of this very long series.

Harry Potter submitted by crp on August 25, 2019, 3:40pm Part of an amazing series, it's worth thinking about when to read this with your kid age-wise rather than just letting them read it (a few scary things if they're at the start of schooling years for example).

A Stepping Stone submitted by Daniel K. on June 29, 2023, 10:45pm One of the weaker entries in the series, the first and second book are a bit more childish and feel less serious. it gets better after this entry, because the stakes get raised.
