Serve the Servants submitted by Caser on July 26, 2011, 2:51pm The louder angrier songs are more ragged on In Utero than Nevermind, a few steps closer to the basement or the garage. I guess we can thank Albini for some of that grime on the tracks. Cobain's voice sounds clearer and more center stage here than PJ Harvey's does on Rid of Me, another Albini produced album. As for the songs, Scentless Apprentice, Heart Shaped box, Dumb, Pennyroyal Tea and All Apologies are standout tracks that continue to impress after 20 years.

Some great tracks, not as cohesive submitted by EJZ on August 3, 2018, 8:26pm As Nevermind. This album still kicks out jams and the songs stay with you.

Towards a future that never came submitted by jibkidder on June 30, 2022, 12:07am The production of the record better matches the bands character than "Nevermind", it's more colorful than "Bleach" and perhaps not as strange as the B-Side collection "Incesticide", which is a full length that both makes sense as an album and features some of their weirdest stuff. Mostly, it signals where they were headed and never got to. In heading towards the position and sound of Sonic Youth, what would they have sounded like?

Rough Around the Edges, But in a Good Way submitted by Meginator on July 4, 2023, 11:30pm This album bounces around stylistically a bit, from tracks that overwhelm with noise to ballads that betray every emotion through Kurt Cobain’s strained vocal delivery, but everything has a raw edge to it that lends the album great staying power even during its more alienating moments. The band’s core grunge sound is on full display, with the production maintaining an unpolished sound that feels true to what the band is trying to accomplish, and the feeling throughout is one of honesty. While the songs may feel a bit all over the place stylistically, they all fit together regardless, with nothing seeming to be out of place. Nevermind is probably the best place to start with Nirvana, but this album feels like the most accurate representation of their musical ambitions, funneling everything they were feeling into these songs.
