Fun adventure submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on August 14, 2013, 8:55pm I liked the story, and it definitely drew me in and made me want to pick up the book when I had a few spare minutes. The author tells a good story and the world is interesting and well-thought-out. The biggest drawback early on was that the main character was very one-dimensional. She's a fighter. She wants to be a fighter. She spends all her time and energy learning to be a good fighter. She values the people around her based on whether they are good fighters or not, and whether they fight for just causes or not.

So... very one-dimensional. But it's definitely fun to read a fantasy novel with a strong and competent female lead. I'll be suggesting this for both my son and my daughter to read when they reach the right ages for it, because the basic adventure story is fun and exciting for that level of reader (though there are a few moments of adult-level tension that don't belong to kids younger than maybe early teens!)

Epic submitted by denisekim on July 21, 2023, 1:58am I reread this series periodically because I like it so much. The story is thrilling and epic, with wonderful character development in the protagonist as she follows her journey to become a paladin. I also liked the author’s thoughtful approach to the themes of good and evil and the shades of gray in between
