One of the best books for class submitted by eringogreen on July 1, 2011, 5:13pm This was one of the best books I had to read for class in college. I love the types of books that have an unreliable narrator (which, realistically, is all books) because it leaves a lot of room for interpretation and theory. Alias Grace is one of those books, and I love it.

Loved this book submitted by mjanen on July 12, 2014, 7:16pm and heard the author discuss it at the Michigan theater. Fascinating.

Stays with you Forever submitted by spinkelman on July 16, 2016, 8:15pm I loved how this surprised me, tricked me and kept me entertained.

Reread submitted by sushai on August 23, 2018, 9:33pm I read this book when it first came out, and again recently before watching the Netflix series (which I heartily recommend as a faithful, well-acted portrayal of the book). Young Grace's story is one of constant struggle and fear, and that can have withering effects on a growing personality. So much so that it is hard to know if she is a reliable narrator. Yet her story, true or not, is compelling, and the other characters are believable instead of heroic, which makes for an interesting read.

Alias Grace submitted by crp on August 5, 2019, 11:21pm Wonderfully superb Atwood, and now it's a TV adaptation that was created with MA's help!

Alias Grace submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 23, 2019, 2:47pm Recently made into a TV series (read the book as it's better), "Alias Grace" tells the mostly true story of Grace Marks. Marks was a 19th century Canadian women who immigrated from Ireland. She was accused of murdering or assisting in the murder of her employer and his live-in girlfriend. Although she was convicted, she was not executed, unlike her male accomplice. Much of the book's narration of Marks' life and (alleged) crime takes place in flashback as she talks to a psychologist hired to help her with her appeal.
Warning: spoilers ahead
The book and TV series portray Marks as leaving prison, going to New York and marrying a farmer there. In reality, historians know nothing of what happened to Marks after she left prison, so the book/TV show do give us a sense of closer that reality lacks.
