Pretty close to the movie submitted by chowcy on August 4, 2012, 11:27am This is one of those rare cases when the movie is better than the book (not because the book is bad or anything, but because the story is easier to understand in film form). Palahniuk's writing style is very fragmented and ADD. Although it's done on purpose, it's still hard to understand what's going on. If I hadn't watched the movie before, I'd probably be confused.

It's not like this book is bad though. A lot of those memorable one-liners in the movie are copied verbatim from the book. And you get a better feel for the narrator's thoughts in the book than in the movie.

good submitted by unknown on June 20, 2014, 12:16pm "Fight Club" is a truly rare book, a fast-paced thriller that's also got some very deep points to it, yet is as technically clean and sharp as a laser-cut diamond. The structure is nothing short of amazing. Read it a few times and you realize Palahniuk has created a book that's all most perfectly balanced; everything ties into everything else. As an example; early in the book, Tyler Durden tells our narrator that "a moment is the most you can expect of perfection." Later on, this line is repeated, and you realize, for a moment in our protagonist's life, he had perfection and now he's losing it.
There are dozens of other examples (this book is a goldmine on how to foreshadow and flashback), and I could go into an analysis of the deeper themes, but I'll spare you the English lecture. Even if you're not a fan of J.G. Ballard, even if you think you'd be turned off by this book, read it anyway. You really will not find a better written book from the last decade.

The Book is Better Than the Movie submitted by MikkiMoscara on June 9, 2023, 10:39am Excellent writing by Chuck Palahniuk, and one of his most notable novels. There are so many more details in the book as opposed to the movie and you feel like you're really in Tyler's mind.

Highly recommended reading and not a difficult read.
