A Nice Look Inside The Psychedelia Years

When I first heard "Real Love" and "Free As A Bird," I was quite underwhelmed. My first reaction was "If this is what could have expected from The Beatles had they not broke up, maybe it's all for the best." But after relistening, I see how wrong I was. "Real Love" stands as one of Lennon's best solo compositions, in my book (and I've never really been a fan of his solo work.) While I can understand some of the complaints about the production of the song, I'm actually quite fond of Jeff Lynne's abilities as a producer. And even though I really like "Free As A Bird," "Real Love" is my favourite.

As far as the rest of the tracks are concerned, most of them are from the psychedelic era and we hear a lot of bare arrangements of their popular songs (like the takes that comprise "Strawberry Fields Forever,") as well as "12-Bar-Original," an instrumental credited to all four.
