Good Civil Rights Book submitted by stellare on June 11, 2021, 3:18pm I really like historical fiction, so I enjoyed this book. I like how it was about the Civil Rights Movement. It was a little bit long, but it was excellent. I highly recommend it.

Great kid's perspective submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 18, 2021, 10:18pm I love that Curtis’ book tells the story of a Black boy’s life with his siblings and his family both in the North and for a short while in a visit to the South in the early 1960’s. He captures so much of the regular life of childhood, but also the nuances of being a Black child during the Modern Civil Rights Movement. The narrator Kenny has a kids’ perspective on life, and Curtis tells the story with an eye toward making the story fun and real, but without sugarcoating the hard stuff. There's a reason this won awards, including the Newbery Honor. Highly recommended.
