Spirituals Made Into Something New submitted by Meginator on August 17, 2020, 7:31pm This album takes its main inspiration from traditional spirituals and hymns, re-imagining them in piano-heavy orchestrations that draw out unexpected nuances and new meanings. Though some of the arrangements are somewhat darker in tone than most of the source material, Haden always keeps each song’s heart intact, and the results are often spectacular. This album completely surprised me and I highly recommend it, even if you’re not overly familiar with jazz or spirituals.
