Early Trumpet Jazz submitted by Meginator on June 22, 2020, 12:20pm The sounds that Bix Beiderbecke could coax from a trumpet are extraordinary, his tone is remarkably clear and cuts through the wind-heavy orchestration in the solo sections. His solos are forward-thinking and have definitive form to them, seeming at once improvised and carefully constructed. Most of the music is evocative of the late 1920s, with some occasional blues influences and a few nods toward the approaching swing era. I was surprised by how lively and entertaining Beiderbecke is, and this album offers a great approach to his music.
