A Jazz Classic submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 8:59pm Exciting and fast-paced, but always with form and direction, these tracks are consistently surprising and complex without being inaccessible or requiring an extensive jazz background to appreciate. Even at faster tempos, Monk always feels completely sure of his next step, even when the listener can’t anticipate where he’s going to take the music next. This album is both hugely influential and a pleasure to listen to. Genius, indeed.
