One of my favorite books as a child... submitted by lauramason89 on August 18, 2018, 11:32am ...and still one of my favorites as an adult. I love the story and the illustrations - especially the color palette and the hints of sparkle. It also gives a great lesson about sharing, although I have to admit I always thought (and still think) that the Rainbow Fish should've got to keep his sparkly scales. He just shouldn't been so vain/arrogant about them. Ha!
Awesome submitted by TLW1998 on June 25, 2022, 7:53pm Great book for little kids about sharing and about how friends are more important than things
You don't have to give a part of yourself away to be liked.

I know it's about sharing, but even as a kid the story felt... wrong somehow. As an adult I can now verbalize the issue: the "things" that rainbow fish shares are literally part of themselves. You do not have to rip yourself apart, metaphorically, to be liked by others.
There are good lessons here--it's good to share, don't be vain or arrogant or snobby, but I just can't read this book the same way others do.
