she's no Anne submitted by apknapp on August 16, 2022, 2:26pm As a lifelong Anne of Green Gables fan, I figured I'd better read this one too, and I honestly found it a bit disappointing. The fun of Anne is how, despite her best intentions, she keeps getting into scrapes and having to wiggle her way out again. Emily doesn't really have that kind of gumption--she just floats through life, coming across as sort of dreamy, possibly fey, having not much agency.
Darker than Anne submitted by tuttlium on July 1, 2023, 9:05am The Emily series has some similarities to the Anne series -- orphaned girl sent to live on a farm with older folks, some of whom are actively hostile toward her -- but is overall much darker and less comic than Anne. This series is said to be more autobiographical; LM Montgomery had a very challenging childhood. The Emily books think more about art and its place in the world, and the ambitions of people who make it.
Good story submitted by suprana on August 4, 2023, 11:41am Enjoyable story with a very different type of heroine than Anne. I enjoyed the series, though the Anne of Green Gables books remain my favorite L.M. Montgomery series.
