Bright colors are appealing submitted by Marian on August 25, 2015, 6:23pm The bright colors in these children's quilts caught my eye, but a number of the patterns have quite small pieces and set-in seams, which require extra care to do right. I really liked the fish quilt in particular, but Laury's method involves applying interfacing (regular, not fusible) to the right side of the pieced fish then flipping it inside out to stabilize it before appliqueing to the background. This is helpful for the fish with prairie point fins, but the method was a bit too much for me. I simplified the construction so that I could do regular piecing and made a twin size quilt that pleased both my young nephew and me! Other patterns include faces for "My Family", "Circus Clowns", and "Animal Fair". They look like fun, but again have a lot of quite small pieces. Some are fused on, so may be easier to do.
