COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Informative submitted by Xris on June 28, 2019, 11:40am Some of the essays were harder to get through than others. I particularly liked the title essay, about his relationship with his father. It discusses how he felt toward his father before and after his death. A lot of the essays had a pessimistic tone, but I liked the last line "This world is white no longer, and it will never be white again".
Bitter Clarity and Uncommon Grace submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on August 15, 2020, 5:57am Baldwin was the definitive outsider — black and gay and an expat — his portrayal of America by some means seems truer. In the title essay, he builds to a scene in a diner in which, furious at being denied service, he realizes that he is willing to commit murder. His examination of race and rage takes as its target, finally, his own heart.
