Science Fiction Short Stories
submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 19, 2013, 9:24am
I have long loved Connie Willis' science fiction writing, so I also loved her short stories, although I wish each one had been a novel.
The title story is about a time traveling historian from Oxford University in the far future. It is part of a larger series (all of which I recommend) including the novels "Doomsday" and "Blackout." In this story the historian works as a fire fighter at St Paul's Cathedral during the World War II blitz of London.
Among the stories in this collection, "Fire Watch" won a Hugo Award for Best Novelette and a Nebula Award for Best Novelette; "A Letter from the Clearys" won a Nebula Award for Best Short Story; "The Sidon in the Mirror," "Daisy, in the Sun," and "Blued Moon" were nominated for various awards.
I highly recommend all Willis' writing, especially "To Say Nothing of the Dog," which is also about the time traveling historians.
