Knowing how to read and write is not enough for Louis, a voiceless Trumpeter Swan; his determination to learn to play a stolen trumpet takes him far from his wilderness home.

animal humanity submitted by FordAlpha on August 17, 2019, 1:11pm E.B. White's genius was using talking animals to tell stories of profound humanity. Although "Charlotte's Web" is better known, "The Trumpet of the Swan" is an equally great example of White's storytelling gift, and Louis the mute trumpeter swan is a relatable hero. This book has a bit of everything that makes a good story: humor, action, relationships, varied settings, surprising turns of plot, and poignancy.
