Shades of Arthur

This novel begins with Arthur already deceased, and old man Merlin relates the story of his life. It is rich in detail, heavy with a combination of pre-Arthurian romance Celtic mythology and the more expected Arthurian legend. Mystical and dark, a tome full of battle and bards. A very unfamiliar take on the old tales. Not a quick read but an absorbing one.
Note: The planned sequels have not yet materialized, and it seems highly doubtful to me that they ever will. Don't let that stop you from picking up this volume, however.
