Not the heroine I was looking for
submitted by terpsichore17 on July 25, 2018, 10:39am
A quick read, written in an interesting style: following different students of Jean Brodie, skipping back and forth through their lives to build a picture of an unmarried teacher who is unconventional in her methods.
I was looking for literary role models to unmarried women. Miss Brodie is not quite it. More thoughts here: https://bit.ly/2LERaaI
I'm not sure I really understood this book...

I liked the unique approach the author took to the narration, and I like that readers are left to decide for themselves who the protagonists are, and if their motivations are rooted in good, evil, or something in between. In some ways I feel like I read a part of a bigger story, and I'd like to know what that story is, especially concerning Ms. Brodie's connection to Fascism in the 1930's.
