In Russia Books Read You submitted by jaegerla on October 4, 2010, 11:04am This is a strong start to the Arkady Renko series. It sucked me in and made me want to move on to Book #2 right away. Smith sets his stories in Russia over the course of the last thirty years and is supposed to be accurate to Soviet culture. I've heard about the U.S.S.R. through family members for many years and still learned new things through the casual writing of the book. For example: You needed a permit to enter certain cities; according to their officials prostitution did not exist in the U.S.S.R. and people were accused of different crimes in place of it; etc.
