Great submitted by karenkay on July 24, 2011, 7:45pm My absolute favorite series of beginning chapter books. Well-written, humorous and tolerable for adults to read over and over again. Nate is generally nice to friends but does refer to one of his friends as “odd”, “weird” or “strange”. Watch for the cute letters he writes to his mother.

Perfect for bridging the gap for young readers submitted by razzled on August 27, 2023, 9:14am There aren't many great options for readers bridging the gap from reading picture books to chapter books on their own. Nate the Great does an excellent job at this and for a very narrow window is one of the best series available. They are short, but there are many in the series and the clues are easy enough that young readers can figure them out, helping them to predict what the characters might do and enjoy the "feeling of knowing".
