Sweet tale of friendship submitted by camelsamba on July 2, 2011, 8:59pm Sweet (and bittersweet) story, about friendship and family and home.

That part where all of NYC (or at least a big chunk of Times Square) is standing around listening to Chester reminded me of another family favorite, Mole Music.

Minor quibble (feel free to skip if you'd rather bask in the glow of a good story): The one thing that bugged me was how the author used "person" to refer to all the animals. Yes, in your story they are sentient beings with personalities and complex communication, but they are not people. "Being"? "Living creature"? Something like that, used to refer to all the human and non-human characters, would not have bugged me as much as "people" for non-humans.

Great pets submitted by gsb03 on August 6, 2011, 1:04pm A boy mario finds a cricket and they have adventures.

Great book! submitted by Morgsush on August 5, 2012, 6:05pm I remember reading this amazing book in fourth grade. I couldn't stop reading until I finished it. It was so addicting...

Good memory submitted by jmcwethy on December 8, 2015, 2:41pm My 5th grade student teacher read this book aloud to us (in the mid '60s) and I've never forgotten it. Now I'm reading it to my Godson.

All around good book submitted by lgoff on July 31, 2020, 10:53am This book is a great read, especially for those in upper elementary school. Even though it has been many years since I've read it, I still have fond memories of the storyline that evoked much visualization during my earlier years. Highly recommend!

Great Read Aloud with Kids! submitted by thesrays on August 8, 2022, 10:07pm Over the years, our family has taken to reading books aloud...and this is one we chose. It lends itself well to the read aloud genre...and you'll find yourself with shared memories, that are good ones. Highly recommended!
