excellent submitted by qmomo on May 10, 2023, 3:52pm I loved this book so much as a kid and I'm happy kids of the current generation get to enjoy it too. a wonderfully sensitive and empathetic story of a "problem" kid navigating difficult emotions, not without a touch of humor... he's best known for his more absurdist and fantastical stories like Wayside School and Holes, deservedly so but Sachar also really excels at these realistic middle grade novels about kids working through big emotions. Sixth Grade Secrets and Dogs Don't Tell Jokes were also big favorites of mine.
