Tired of being last on the smoky, noisy freight train, Katy Caboose wishes for some way to escape from the endless track.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Freedom Caboose submitted by eprabhu on July 31, 2011, 9:38pm This is an interesting book. Even though it is children's book, I enjoyed reading it. A caboose yearning to get freedom and finally gets it. I am not sure it liked the freedom at all.

Another Bill Peet classic submitted by SBrandt on August 26, 2014, 7:23pm Another Bill Peet classic. A great story and wonderful illustrations.

Good submitted by AprilCDB on June 18, 2015, 2:07pm A story of a caboose who doesn’t like being a caboose and wishes to be something else. One day she gets loose and gets to spend her days quietly in a tree. My son loves this book and keeps asking for us to read it to him, but it’s to long for my tastes of a bedtime story.

awesome submitted by poptart887 on August 28, 2016, 8:50am awesome little book about a caboose

One of Bill Peet's railroad tales submitted by FordAlpha on July 30, 2018, 1:40pm Author-illustrator Bill Peet had some favorite settings: the circus, the railroad, the circus train. Katy Caboose belongs to an ordinary freight train, not a circus train, and she's unhappy with her lot in life. As in all Bill Peet tales, the protagonist feels wanderlust, encounters difficulties in her travels, and eventually finds a home and a sense of belonging. To me, however, Katy's eventual stationary fate is not satisfactory at all.

Also like all Bill Peet books, this is on the long side of picture books.

Grandson Loves submitted by kathscot on July 31, 2018, 9:16am My grandson loves this book. It is a gentle tale.

Bill Peet - My All Time Favorite submitted by momreset on August 10, 2022, 3:24pm Any book by Bill Peet is the best. He is my all time favorite author/ illustrator. The Caboose Who Got Loose is worth reading over and over. Bill Peet’s illustrations are worth looking at. I’m so glad the library has this book available even though it is old. Kids can enjoy Bill Peet for generations. Thank you AADL.
