Goldilocks and the three bears submitted by chioma on July 7, 2015, 10:36am cute drawings
Humorous Retelling submitted by Sara W on August 29, 2015, 9:59pm The classic story gets a humorous twist with James Marshall's not-so-sweet Goldilocks in this excellent retelling. It hits all the right points and the illustrations add some zaniness that little listeners will enjoy.
Great author submitted by jessNU on July 25, 2018, 10:18pm I love all of James Marshall's books - his illustrations and stories are so sweet and great for kids and adults
Great submitted by Noah Oron on July 15, 2023, 2:49pm The illustrations are great and the story has a different interpretation at every age
Nice submitted by blondi on July 15, 2023, 3:30pm Read to my sister

droll submitted by FordAlpha on July 15, 2023, 10:14pm I've often wondered why, exactly, this book received a Caldecott Honor. James Marshall's style is hardly artsy. Indeed, some might consider it altogether artless. But whether or not it deserved a Caldecott, this telling of The Three Bears deserves a spot on the shelf of terrific read-aloud picture books. The bright, cartoonish drawings are cluttered with books and sight gags (including Marshall's usual tributes to Texas), and the bears' deadpan expressions are ever so droll. Is there meant to be a moral? Not really -- the naughty Goldilocks runs off, and that's the end of it, whether she "learned her lesson" or not. Personally, I like it that way, but you might prefer stories with clearer consequences (and/or with heroines who possess redeeming qualities to offset their shameless larceny).
