Startling submitted by willow on August 3, 2016, 3:31pm Betty MacDonald, author of the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books, wrote one book, that used to be but no longer is owned by AADL, called "The Egg and I," about rural living and chicken raising. When she tired of that life, she left her husband and took her kids to the city, where she started life again during the Depression. (She eventually remarried Donald MacDonald.) The book is apparently "semi-autobiographical." The first chapter contains one of the most hilarious descriptions of a devious older child leading younger siblings astray. The rest of the book deals with her struggles patching together a series of odd jobs and meeting odd characters, and her relationship with her mother and sister (yes, that older sister).
