Weird and wonderful fable about family submitted by berkleya on July 18, 2023, 10:15am I read this book with my kids when they were very small, and I found it so moving: so much here to extrapolate about blended families, what "counts" as a parent-child bond, and how diverse sorts of parents and families are beautiful. Mermaid mom, bear child, and human (I think?) dad. Maybe also a panther of some kind in there. I read it quite awhile ago, and have been meaning to go back to it ever since. Simple, spare prose that's the kind kids like to hear, but you'll get way more out of it than they will if they're really young. This is the kind of book you could read again and again as you and your kids grow and get something new out of it every time.
