"Ernest Hemingway famously said that he rewrote the ending to A Farewell to Arms thirty-nine times to get the words right. This edition collects all of the alternative endings together for the first time, along with early drafts of other essential passages, offering new insight into Hemingway?s craft and creative process and the evolution of one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century. Featuring Hemingway?s own 1948 introduction to an illustrated reissue of the novel, a personal foreword by the author?s son Patrick Hemingway, and a new introduction by the author?s grandson Se?n Hemingway, this edition of A Farewell to Arms is truly a celebration."--Amazon.com.

First? submitted by jayzwack on July 30, 2019, 7:14pm Not sure how I'm the only review. This is a classic and one of Hemingway's absolute best. Very memorable and a unique story.
A classic whose significance has waned submitted by aprille on June 10, 2022, 6:30pm This is a novel about an American who volunteered for the Italian army ambulance corps in World War I, and his lover, a nurse. Lots of carousing, a soldiers' eye view of war and desertion, and a love story. The female character, Cat, seemed to be a male fantasy -- beautiful, shallow as can be, and reckless as to the future financial security of out-of-wedlock offspring they might produce. Today, the Hemingway prose seems false and truncated, though I know he was an innovator in his time.
