another example of Heinlein's mastery of classic Hard SciFi submitted by hathaway1066 on July 14, 2014, 6:54pm There's a lot here for a high school physics class--or literate geeky-inclined/intelligent person--to enjoy and pick apart, though probably it would need a re-write due to all that we've since learned about the moon, asteroids, and so on. As a pre-moon-landing, but space age read it has a certain historical value, but it's also just a darn good, fun, page-turned yarn.

That Dinkum Thinkum submitted by ashwinmk on June 18, 2020, 1:20pm Sci-fi is at its best when it serves as an allegory for more contemporary themes; Heinlein accomplishes this here by exploring how society diverges and adapts when subjected to scarce resources, as well as the uphill battle of a revolution and the political challenges that come after - building a government and defending it.

Holds up after all these years submitted by kaymbre on July 4, 2021, 2:25pm I've read this masterpiece numerous times over the last forty years. Despite changing technology, this story rings true because it's about the human condition. It could have been set during the Revolutionary War and would still have held true.
