Originally published: London : Faber and Faber Ltd., 1954.
In this novel, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate. This far from civiization they can do anything they want. Anything. But as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far removed from reality as the hope of being rescued, and these schoolboys marooned on this tropical island revert to primitive savagery.

Ok submitted by 04foremanh on July 27, 2012, 8:21pm It was a decent book

SA scond opinion submitted by tedrey on July 9, 2014, 9:58am It's very indecency made it justly famous. It chills and petrifies, and makes you feel and think deeply. Highly recommended..

Classic submitted by steveiew on August 3, 2015, 5:05pm This book is extremely well written with a compelling story.

Chilling submitted by Meginator on August 22, 2017, 12:20pm Lord of the Flies is a chilling book that is justifiably famous, even if it's a bit difficult to stomach in certain parts. All too believable, it paints a possible picture of what happens when a group of young boys must fend for themselves in an inhospitable environment. Golding's view of human nature is a dark one, but it's an important and interesting one to consider.

Okay submitted by zmclaugh on July 30, 2018, 4:32pm This is a good concept but far-fetched in some places.

Classic submitted by c_zhang on June 27, 2019, 10:57pm The concept is unique, and it makes you think. I enjoyed reading this book a lot.

Good book submitted by jasonc1177 on July 31, 2019, 7:58pm this book is great. Very interesting %%

part of the canon submitted by FordAlpha on August 29, 2019, 10:28pm "Lord of the Flies" is canonical; you have to read it if you want to be well read, and to understand the allusions to it that crop up all over popular culture. I managed to miss it in high school, so I read it years later to catch myself up. Other than the deus ex machina ending (a classic example of that literary device), it's tautly constructed. The plot moves along propulsively, compelling the reader to continue even when events become distinctly unpleasant.

Interesting submitted by ravinath on August 17, 2020, 8:23pm I found it interesting to see how people reacted to being stranded and cut out from the rest of society and how it affects their mental and physical state.

Good, but confusing for me submitted by kjshaffer on July 11, 2021, 8:02pm I thought it was a very good book, but it was just written with very old vocabulary, which made it slightly confusing for me.
